No cookies, no sign-up, no stored postcodes.
Lifemap is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and asks for no account or contact details. A few services still see a visit, because every web page has to be fetched from somewhere. This page lists them.
The publisher.
Lifemap is published by Herdo MB, a company registered in Lithuania. Herdo MB is the controller of the personal data described on this page. Contact: press@lifemap.org.uk.
Four services see a visit.
- GitHub Pages HostingThe site is served by GitHub Pages. GitHub logs the IP address of every visitor for security purposes; Lifemap cannot see these logs. See the GitHub privacy statement.
- Clicky Page countsLifemap counts page views with Clicky, set up with no cookies. Each page you open sends one record: the page’s address without anything after a
?or#, its title, the page you came from if it is on another site, and your browser’s type, language, time zone, screen size and touch support. Clicky also sees your IP address; its privacy policy says it stores IP addresses in anonymised form by default. Lifemap does not record clicks, scrolling, time on page or anything you type, and the embeddable chart carries no analytics at all. Clicky is run by Roxr Software Ltd in the United States. A content blocker that stops Clicky makes no difference to how the site works. - postcodes.io Postcode searchWhen you search for a postcode or a postcode district, your browser sends it, with your IP address, to postcodes.io, a free service run by Ideal Postcodes, which replies with the council. A search by council name, or for one of the example postcodes on the homepage, stays on the page. Lifemap does not store the postcode and never puts it in the page address: the address bar shows only the council (
?area=), and the page-count record leaves even that out. An old link that carries a postcode (?pc=) still reaches GitHub Pages as it was written; the page then replaces it with?area=. - jsDelivr Map libraryWhen you scroll to it, the homepage map loads the MapLibre library from jsDelivr, a public content delivery network, which sees your IP address when it sends the file. See the jsDelivr privacy policy. Everything else, including the fonts, data files and images, comes from lifemap.org.uk itself.
Email.
Messages to press@lifemap.org.uk are held in Lifemap’s email service, Google Workspace, for as long as they are needed to reply and follow up. They are not added to a mailing list or passed to anyone else.
Legitimate interests, nothing more.
Each use above rests on legitimate interests: serving the site securely, knowing how many people read which pages, answering the postcode search you ask for, and replying to email. No data is sold, used for advertising or shared for marketing, and none is used to make decisions about individuals. GitHub, Clicky and jsDelivr may process data outside the UK and the European Economic Area, under their own safeguards.
Access, correction, deletion, objection.
You can ask for a copy of personal data held about you, or ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its use, by writing to press@lifemap.org.uk. Lifemap itself holds very little that can identify a reader: there are no accounts, and the page counts carry no cookie or visitor identifier. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in Lithuania, where Herdo MB is registered, the State Data Protection Inspectorate.
